Daybed Mattress
The mattress that you choose for your daybed will determine, for the most part, how comfortable the daybed is. If you are sleeping on the daybed, this can be a big issue. Many daybeds come equipped with a standard innerspring mattress while others may have more of a foam mattress that is somewhat like a mattress you would find on a bunk bed, only sized for the daybed. If you have comfort in mind, you will likely want to replace the daybed mattress that was shipped with your daybed. Some daybeds are sold without a mattress and you will need to purchase it separately, which may be a good thing because that will allow you to pick the mattress that best suits you.
The setup of the mattress support system will also affect the comfort of your daybed, as it relates to your personal preference. A daybed does not require the use or even accommodate for a traditional box spring or mattress foundation like you would find on a standard bed. So the support system of the daybed may play a big role as well in how comfortable you find your daybed. The majority of daybeds feature a series of coil springs that hold the mattress up but that have a bit of “give” to them, while others may have a bunkie board or slats in its construction to support the mattress. The latter generally provide a firmer feel than the coil springs would. Take this into consideration when purchasing your daybed; if you like a firmer feel to your mattress, then go with the bunkie board or slats setup. Otherwise, go with a daybed that has coil springs to support the mattress to allow for a bit of “give” when you lay down.
Taking into account the mattress support system of your particular daybed, you can then choose your daybed mattress. These mattresses are available, as mentioned above, with innersprings or as large pieces of foam. There are also memory foam daybed mattresses that are very popular right now because they are so therapeutic for those folks with aching backs who find it difficult to get a good night’s sleep. Keep in mind, when buying your daybed mattress that you truly do get what you pay for. If you want quality and you want to sleep comfortably, then you will be paying more. If not, you may as well purchase a platform bed.
On the other hand, if your daybed is more for decorative purposes and extra seating in the living area of your home, then you may not be altogether concerned with how well the daybed will feel underneath you after eight hours sleep. Perhaps you use the daybed only on rare occasions for seating or napping, or as an extra bed if you have a guest. If the daybed is not going to be used that much, then going with a lower quality mattress should not make a difference in the enjoyment of your daybed at all, although any guests may not appreciate your frugality!
When shopping for a daybed mattress, always take time to comparison shop. You may be pleasantly surprised when a bit of effort on your part to find the best price yields you significant savings.
